Leishmaniasis is a complex group of parasitic disease which has various forms of
clinical pictures, prognosis, names, causative species, transmission vectors, and
sequences of infection, and management schemes. Diversity of clinical presentation of
leishmaniasis depends on geographical region, type of infecting parasite species, and
immune response of the host. Although Leishmaniasis is considered endemic in Yemen,
and several studies have been conducted since seventieth of the last century, however
until now leishmaniasis has not been an officially reported disease as well as the actual
prevalence in the general population is not known.
