ItemChallenges and Countermeasures of Teaching and Learning Chinese Characters in Sudan(UOFK, 2013-02) Fenggao, WuThe shapes of Chinese characters are complicated, this is a big shortcoming but it is also the biggest advantage which can benefit learners in a multi-lingual education context. The paper is an investigation into the practice of teaching and learning Chinese at Khartoum University. The study focuses on the shapes of Chinese characters by analyzing the shapes created by the learners in their homework after they have learnt the methods by which the Chinese create pictographic characters, self-explanatory characters and so on, then compare them first with “Xiaozhuan” (an ancient style of calligraphy, adopted in the Qin Dynasty for the purpose of standardizing the script) and secondly with the regular script in Chinese calligraphy. After doing the comparison, I will know the points which are similar to the standard Chinese characters and the ones which are not. I will use the correct shapes of Chinese characters and symbols to show the meanings and the cultures they contain. If the characters written by the learners are different from the standard Chinese characters, I will point out to them that it is as a result of their different cultural and linguistic background, since they have been used to Arabic. The purpose of this study is to develop an effective methodology for teaching and learning Chinese characters and cultures in Sudan.

ItemThe Outstanding Issues between the Two Sudans: a Way to Peace or Conflict(UOFK, 2013-02) Zain al-Abdin, Al-TayibThe Comprehensive Peace Agreement (2005) between the government of Sudan and the SPLM led to a referendum on self-determination for the people of southern Sudan. The result of the referendum held in January 2011 showed an overwhelming majority for an independent South Sudan. President al-Bashir attended the celebration and promised full cooperation with the new state. However, many issues were not settled during the six years Interim Period, they had to be negotiated later. Since July 2010, the two parties failed to reach an agreement on the major outstanding issues: oil transportation fees, Abyei dispute, border line between the two countries, and security arrangements. Few clashes occurred between the two armies which led to the intervention of the African Union and the UN Security Council; both august bodies passed similar resolutions on the conflict demanding immediate cessation of hostilities, withdrawal from disputed areas and reaching agreements on all outstanding issues within three months under the facilitation of African Union High Implementation Panel headed by Thabo Mbeki of South Africa. Two rounds of negotiation took place in May and June 2012 in Addis Ababa without tangible success. The SC warned the party which obstructs a negotiated solution with appropriate measures under Chapter 41.

ItemConsumers’ Attitude towards E-Banking Services in Islamic Banks: The Case of Sudan(UOFK, 2013-02) Mansour, Ilham Hassan F. ; Eljelly, Abuzar M. A. ; Abdalla, Abdelgadir M. A.This paper provided an analysis of the attitude towards three banking services technologies in Sudan, namely ATMs, mobile banking, and internet (online) banking. The paper started by conducting an exploratory factor analysis, on the valid responses received from a random sample of bank customers in the Sudan, towards the three technologies. The study employed the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a conceptual framework to investigate the factors that influence customers‟ acceptance and intention to use bank technologies. The study found that customers attitude toward various bank technologies is not the same, and is influenced by relatively different factors. The results show that bank customers who are users of ATMs are influenced by its convenience, ease of use and service quality, while credibility is not considered as a significant driver. Mobile users are found to be more influenced by benefits and ease of use and service quality while internet customers are influenced by benefits and ease of use and credibility of the systems. Under the three models, attitude emerged as a fully mediating factor for customers behavioral intentions.
