    Impact of Micro Finance on Poverty Reduction in Um Rwaba Locality North Kordofan State (2006-2016)

    Abstract Research title: Impact of Micro Finance on Poverty Reduction in Um Rwaba Locality in North Kordofan State (2006-2016). Name of student: Mohammed Mahmoud El Khidir Degree: M.S.c in Economics The aim of the study is to assess the impact of microfinance on poverty reduction in Um Rwaba Locality, North Kordofan State, and to assess the microfinance institutions capability in increasing incomes. The research relied on descriptive and analytical method; data were collected from secondary sources such as references, Central Bank of Sudan annual reports, MFIs reports and primary sources like interview and questionnaire. 200 of microfinance beneficiaries were chosen randomly from 1249 beneficiaries who had taken microfinance in 2016, from four microfinance institutions. The sample represents about 16%, method of comparing the situation of microfinance client before and after taken microfinance was applied to assess the impact of microfinance on social and economic situation of beneficiaries. findings of the research reveal that poverty proportion reduced from 77% to 42%, microfinance has a positive impact on customers economic situation, it has helped in availing medical services and children education, profit margin (cost for credit) is high, which seizes access to microfinance institutions. There are many challenges encounter microfinance institutions in Umrwaba Locality, such as following up their customers projects, provide indication and guidance services in managing these projects, shortage of studies about potential investment opportunities in the locality and lack of products diversification. The research recommended that government should interfere to reduce interest rates in micro finance sector; microfinance institutions could make studies about investment opportunities, employ expertise and specialists in economy and rural development. To follow up these projects, microfinance institutions may diversify their products, by providing other services such as money transfers and micro insurance to attract more clients and expand their services. مستخلص عنوان البحث: أثر التمويل الأصغر في الحد من الفقر بمحلية أم روابة، ولاية شمال كردفان، 2006 – 2016م اسم الطالب: محمد محمود الخضر الدرجة: ماجستير العلوم في الاقتصاد. هدف البحث هو تقييم أثر التمويل الأصغر في تخفيف حدة الفقر في محلية أم روابة بولاية شمال كردفان، وقياس أداء مؤسسات التمويل الأصغر في زيادة الدخل وتحسين مستوي المعيشة، اعتمد البحث على المنهج الوصفي التحليلي وتم جمع المعلومات من مصادر ثانوية كالمراجع وتقارير بنك السودان وتقارير مؤسسات التمويل الأصغر ومصادر أولية كالمقابلات الشخصية والاستبيان. تم أخذ عينة عشوائية 200 مستفيد من أصل 1249 من الذين حصلوا على التمويل في عام 2016م من 4 مؤسسات تمويل أصغر مثلت النسبة 16% من المستفيدين. تم مقارنة أوضاع المستفيدين قبل وبعد الحصول على التمويل لقياس أثر التمويل على أوضاعهم الاقتصادية والاجتماعية، توصلت الدراسة إلى ان التمويل الأصغر ساهم في تخفيض نسبة الفقر من 77% إلى 42%، كما كان له أثر إيجابي على دخول المستفيدين، كما أدي إلى توفير مصاريف علاج وتعليم الأطفال بالنسبة للمستفيدين، ارتفاع تكلفة التمويل قلل من إمكانية الوصول لمؤسسات التمويل الأصغر. هنالك عدة تحديات تواجه مؤسسات التمويل الأصغر بمحلية أم روابة، مثل متابعة مشروعات العملاء وتقديم خدمات توجيه وارشاد لإدارة هذه المشروعات، كما أن هنالك قصور في الدراسات المتعلقة بالفرص الاستثمارية المتاحة على مستوى المحلية، وتنويع المنتجات والخدمات المقدمة من قبل هذه المؤسسات، أوصى البحث بأن تعمل الحكومة علي تخفيض معدلات الفائدة لتحقيق الأهداف الاجتماعية والاقتصادية، القيام بدراسات حول الفرص الاستثمارية على مستوي المحلية من قبل هذه المؤسسات وتوظيف خبراء ومختصين في الاقتصاد والتنمية الريفية لمتابعة هذه المشروعات، كما يمكن لهذه المؤسسات تنويع منتجاتها، بتقديم خدمات أخرى مثل التحويلات المالية والتأمين المصغر لجذب مزيد من العملاء وتوسيع نطاق خدماتها.
