ItemDistribution of Anopheles and Culex mosquitoes in the Blue Nile area, Khartoum and the investigation of malaria parasites in Anopheles salivary glands(University of Khartoum, 2009) Bakhet, T. A. M.This study was done to gain knowledge about the distribution of Anopheles and Culex mosquitoes along the Blue Nile near Khartoum University and to investigate malaria parasites in Anopheles mosquitoes. The study area was divided to three study sites according to habitat differences. Mosquitoes were collected by using plastic dishes filled with water and surfaced with oil material trapped at every dusk and collected every morning to about 40 days. The results showed significant difference in the distribution of mosquitoes numbers and species between the three study sites. This difference was attributed to the different selected habitats. The first site showed the higher number of mosquitoes and this was thought to be due to the vicinity of mosquitoes to water that makes a good environment to mosquito's eggs and larvae to live. The second site showed moderately less mosquitoes number compared to site one while the third site showed the least mosquitoes numbers. The study also showed a significant deference in mosquitoes number between some months of the study period and this was thought to be attributed to different environmental factors. The comparison between Anopheles and Culex showed that they may have different habitat requirements. Also the investigation of females Anopheles salivary glands showed negative results of sporozoits.
