During the period November 2009-June20 lOa total of 30 rats (Arvicanthis niloticus) were collected from the study area ; Toti island. The aim of this work was to define the morphological description, prevalence and intensity of infestation of ectoparasites. Also the study aimed to correlate these findings with the habitat of the rat. In addition, sex related infestation was considered. Investigation of the skin revealed that (40% ) of rats were infested with one or more of ectoparasites namely insects and arachnids. Species or genera identified were as follows: Insects: Xenopsylla cheopis, Serrata. Polyplax spinuolosa, Polyplax Arachnids: Dermanyssuss gallinae, Ornithonyssus bacoti.
