The major effort in this paper is devoted to presenting the conversation problems facing Sudanese Learners of English in general and the problems specific to University of Bahri’s English language majors graduates. It discusses the notion of communicative competence and defines strategic competence. It also briefly deals with the various definitions of communication strategies and taxonomies of conversation strategies. Finally, the paper concludes by the pedagogical implications of conversation strategies.
