Abstract: This thesis deals with Hamza Ibn Habib Al-zayat “ his Quranic reading and its orientation in Arabic Grammar ” so as to study two aspects: The doctrine of one of the Muslim scholars “ Imams” of the seven readings, who is the reader Imam Hamza Ibn Habib Al-zayat (80 – 156 H.) and the orientation of his reading grammatically and linguistically. Hamza Ibn Habib Al-zayat, may Allah bless his soul, was knowledgeable in Arabic Language, reference in the law of distribution of estate (legacy) in addition to his knowledge and practice in reading and teaching same and being Imam in both. The thesis, besides the introduction, composed of a preliminary and three chapters: Preliminary which gives definition of the Quranic readings, their variations and the date of their writings. Chapter one handles the biography of Hamza Ibn Habib Al-zayat ( his name, birth, kinship, era, behaviour and conduct , characteristics, knowledge, sayings of scholars on him, publications, sheikh “master” and students). Chapter two deals with the general principles of Hamza’s reading (assimilation, pronunciation of a shaded letter “Imala”, pause, elongation, silence, disconjunctive hamza and other various rules “ pronoun, inversion of “sa’d” into “zai” and supplementary “ya’ ” ) . Chapter three handles Hamza’s disconjunctive letters and their orientation in Arabic Grammar ( a- points of agreement between Hamza and Al-Kissaie “ nouns, verbs, vowels and prepositions ” - b- points of agreement between Hamza and Asim “ nouns, verbs, vowels and prepositions ” - c- points of agreement between Hamza , Al-Kissaie and Asim “ nouns, verbs, vowels and prepositions ” - d- the vowels particular to Hamza “ nouns, verbs, vowels and prepositions ” ) . This chapter is annexed with a list of vowels unique to Hamza. The study comes out with two matters: - The first one is related to Hamaz’s doctrine in Quranic readings as his reading is distinguished by the long elongation, silence and the change of disconjunctive hamza in pause, together with the opinion of the scholars thereon. The second is related to the orientation of his Quranic reading grammatically, linguistically and mentioning the opinion of grammarian thereon.
