Abstract: The area of this study is the play “Phèdre”, the masterpiece of the author Jean Racine. The objective of the study is to analyze this play, then the method we have applied is the analytic method. The study composed of three chapters: chapter one is an introductory chapter in which we talk about the author’s life, the author’s works, the theatre in the seventeenth century, the Racine’s tragedy, the characteristics of Racine’s hero and finally the summary of the play. Chapter two concerns the analysis of the themes: the main theme (the fatal love) and the minor themes (jealousy, the fatherly love, the reciprocal love and the death). Chapter three concerns the analysis of the characters, the major characters (Phèdre, Thésée and Hippolyte) and the minor characters (Oenone and Aricie). And finally the conclusion in which we have come to some points as the results of the study. .
