Title: فصول في مهارات التمريض الأساسية

Abstract: The translated part of volume 1 comprises five full modules and part of Module (6) in addition to: (a) list of contents of all (31) modules of volume 1 which falls in six units; (b) list of skills; (c) two separate addresses to the instructor and the student in which are provided some explanations, directives and highlights on the nursing approach adopted, concepts and basic skills. =607; For every module the authors state: its overall objective, the rational for the use of the information it provides, its specific learning activities, vocabulary, critical thinking exercises, a short list of references, a performance check list and a quiz. =607; Titled \\\\\\\"An Approach to Nursing Skills\\\\\\\", Module (1) tackles patient rights supported by law and ethics and thereafter deals with the nursing process through its various phases – assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation. Finally, it discusses methods of developing a nurse\\\\\\\'s technical competence through mental and physical practices after comprehending the module. =607; Module (2) deals with several aspects of basic infection control, with special emphasis on such themes as ways in which microorganisms spread, universal precautions, procedure for handwashing and generally speaking attention to personal hygiene. =607; The focus of Module (3) is safety in institutions, working places and the patient\\\\\\\'s room. Methods of protecting the dependent patient – adult or child – are explained and safety devices and restraints are discussed in details. Some space is devoted to smoking as a hazard in a healthcare facility, and to training on how to cope with fires and other disasters. =607; Module (4) is concerned with basic body mechanics, especially in relation to principles behind using this skill, long – term care and home care. More specifically, the module describes and discusses situations and practices whereby caring for patients is accomplished with utmost ease and safety for both the patient and the nurse or the family member caring for the patient. =607; As an important step in the nursing process, documentation is dealt with in Module (5). Different types of records are described together with record content and organization, and meeting various legal standards. Specifically, emphasis is laid on different methods of writing progress notes, especially the method of problem oriented medical record, written according SOAP design which proceeds from identifying the problem to recording its subjective and objective data, to assessment (or analysis) and planning how to tackle the problem. =607; Module (6) is an introduction to assessment skills. The translated part of the module (nine pages) focuses on basic techniques for physical assessment (inspection, palpation, auscultation and percussion), and points out that enhancing physical assessment requires learning additional skills (measuring body temperature, heart pulse, respiration and blood pressure etc), as well as integrating these skills into a coherent whole insofar as nursing is a multi – phase process – assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
