Abstract: The study aimed at comparing the efficiency of two different stuttering treatment methods (direct, mixed) and assessing whether the efficiency of these programs is affected by some demographic variables (age and parent’s education). The study population were primary school pupils who stutter and their parents in Khartoum state, the samples comprised 36 stutterers with age ranging between 7 – 14 years and mean age of 11.2 years. The study used the quasi-experimental design with two experimental groups subjected to pre and post testing in the absence of a control group. First Group: a direct therapy group (n=19 stutterers) were subjected to pre test for stuttering severity, direct therapy program and post test for stuttering severity. Group Two: a mixed therapy group (n=17 stutterers) with their parents. the pupils were subjected to the same procedures as group one, the parents’ pre test reactions towards stuttering were measured, the parents were concurrently subjected to a family counseling program followed by a post test for parents’ reactions towards stuttering was measured. The following tools were administered: Stuttering Severity Inventory for children and adults – 3 (SSI-3), Parents Reactions Towards Stuttering Measurement Scale, Direct Stuttering Therapy Program, Mixed Stuttering Therapy Program (family counseling + direct therapy) and Case – Study. To analyze the data obtained statistically SPSS program was applied using the following methods: Frequencies and Percentage, “T” test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, Spearman Correlation and Friedman Test. The main results were: - The applied therapeutic programs were efficient in reducing stuttering severity among the samples. - No differences were found between the two programs efficiency.
