dc.description.abstract This study aims at focusing on the romantic era and its characteristics applying them on the poet Shelley. The study starts with an introduction to the Romantic Movement giving a historical background then widens to cover the characteristics of the Romantic Movement. A background about the life of the poet Shelley is given as well as the characteristics of his poetry in an attempt to see how much he applies typical romantic features and characteristics in his poetry. The study also sheds light on different opinions about Shelley and how critics approached his poetry and how they criticized him. The study finally concludes by a comparison of two major streams in criticism and the raises an important question about the real standards of criticism should criticism be a matter of (self study) to the poet or (work study) should we handle the poet’s life as a clue that helps to understand the poet as a person or to analyze his poetry through his life events. en_US
