Abstract: This research aims to identify the relationship between the psychological needs of pupils with scholastic retardation in the “Basic Level of Education” at El-Obied town, and the parental treatment style and socio-economic status. To achieve these goals, the researcher applied the descriptive correlation approach. The research sample consisted of (122) male & female pupils of 7th grade of the basic level, (71) male pupils and (51) female pupils, have been selected by stratified random selection. The research tools applied are the scales of psychological needs, the parental treatment styles, Raven’s for intelligence and family's Socio-economic Status (SES). The data were analyzed by using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) using a number of statistical tests; some of them are; t test for one group, t test for two independent groups, equation of Cronbach's alpha and Pearson’s correlation coefficients. The research found a set of results summarized in the following: 1. The psychological needs of students with scholastic retardation are high with statistically significant degree. 2. No correlation between the total score of the psychological needs and the total score of the parental treatment styles for the father and the mother. 3. No statistically significant correlation between the total score of the psychological needs and the socio-economic level. و 4. No statistically significant differences in the overall scale of the psychological needs between males and females. 5. No statistically significant correlation between the total score of psychological needs and chronological age of the pupils with scholastic retardation. In conclusion, findings of the research were discussed, and then a set of recommendations and suggestions were provided for future studies and research.
