Author: Mohammed Sharaf eldin Daw, Elbiet
Abstract: The research aimed at investigating the real causes of the conflict between Darfur and the central government with special reference to North Darfur state. Majority of researches viewed that conflicts in Darfur is a result of environmental factors, lack of resources (conflict over pasture), conflict over customary land (Hawakir) and conflict between Arab tribes and non-Arab tribes. The research followed the descriptive and the historical method and depends mainly on secondary sources of data collection, references, reports, previous researches, workshop papers and internet by analyzing the content of these sources. The research main findings: • There are variations in social services provision between Sudan\\\\\\\'s different states. • There are least develop states than North Darfur state, this situation constitutes a bomb in the future if the central government will not develop these areas. • The general education enrollment ration is less, particularly in rural areas. • There is lack of accessibility to health services and less number of medical cadres. The research main conclusions are that, the main cause of Darfur’s conflict is a result of uneven development and all the successive national governments have contributed in varying degree in this problem, in addition to the negative role of British colonialism in the development of the region. Beside that, there are secondary reasons which have contributed to Darfur’s problem, such as the environmental deterioration mainly drought and desertification that hit the region in the mid 1980s, in addition to insecurity in the region, farmers and nomads conflict, all these reasons led to social disorder and common belief that the central government neglects the region and finally led to confrontation between the region and the central government
