Abstract
A field experiment was carried out during 2010/2011 season at the Demonstration Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture (Shambat) to study the effect of phosphorus fertilizer on the growth, forage yield and quality of three hyacinth bean (Lablab purpureus L.) lines: Line7, line9 and line12. Two levels of phosphorus; namely, the control and 40 kg P2O5/ha in the form of triple superphosphate (48%P2O5), applied at sowing. The experiment was conducted using a randomized complete block design with four replicates. Data were collected on number of nodules, number of leaves per plant, plant height, stem diameter, forage fresh and dry yields and protein content. The vegetative attributes were measured four times throughout the growing season. The results indicated that phosphorus application had no significant effect on the studied parameters. The lines showed significant differences for plant height in the second and the third readings, and line7 scored the highest values (124.04 and 122.80 cm
