Secondary data were obtained from books, researches, formal reports and other relevant sources. Primary data were collected through a survey in the study area during the year 2006 by means of questionnaire, observations and interviews. The study reached many results, the most important of which are: 1. The Zakat people committees at the blocks and villages level were not effective to perform their duties. 2. Provision of direct donation in cash and income generating activities for individuals and groups assisted in raising the income of the beneficiaries. Hence resulting in improving their standard of living improved and this contributing to the local development of the study area. 3. The income-generating activities faced some problems including: high local fees and taxes, low quality of some production tools, lack of renewal of the idle production projects. The study proposed some recommendations, the most important of which were: 1. Provision of regular training in administrative skills to the Zakat local people committees, members at level of villages and blocks and providing financial support for the committees to enable them to perform their roles effectively. 2. Provision and distribution of the production tools (individuals, and groups) and income-generating activities to cover most of the beneficiaries own stance rather than giving direct donation in cash. 3. Exempt production tools and income-generating activities from local fees and taxes. 4. Cooperation non governmental organizations (NGOs) and the concerned government authorities working in community development for better performance and resources management in the study area.
