Title: Public Policy and Poverty in Sudan: An Econometric Approach
Author: Suliman,Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed
Abstract: Poverty impacts of macroeconomic policies as well as policies that designed to alleviate poverty in the developing countries are increasingly drawing both domestic and international attention. This research infers macroeconomic policies that can effectively reduce poverty. A specific focus in the research is with respect to the status of poverty- related public policy in the Sudan. This research investigates the mathematical relationship between poverty rate and macroeconomic policy based on linear multiple regression analysis. The emphasis is on some economic policy tools and how these tools are use to reduce poverty rate. The models estimated by using the E-Views software. Three models are experimented: The first model specifies the relationship between poverty rate with respect to distribution coefficient and per capita consumption expenditure. The second specifies the relationship between poverty rate with respect to the inflation rate, distribution coefficient, money supply and the percent change in poverty (head count ratio). The last model specifies the relationship between poverty rate with respect to the inflation rate, distribution coefficient and GDP per capita. Only one model is chosen based on the econometric and economic evaluation of the obtained results.
