Title: Effect of Seed Rate on Growth and Forage Yield of Two Cluster Bean {Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub} Lines
Author: Eltyb Ahmed Nimir, Nimir
Abstract: A field experiment was conducted during 2009 season in the Demonstration Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture at shambat to study the effect of line and seed rate on growth and forage yield of cluster bean {Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub}. It comprised two lines of cluster bean (L7 and L30) and four seed rates (6, 12, 18 and 24 kg/ha). The experiment was laid out in spilt-plot design with three replications. The lines were assigned to the main plots and the seed rate rates to the sub plots .Data were collected on plant height, number of branches per plant, stem diameter, leaf area index, number of days to 50% flowering, fresh and dry fodder yield and protein and fiber content. The results showed that there were no significant differences between the two lines in all the studied parameters, except leaf area index. The seed rate had significant effect on the number of branches per plant, stem diameter and leaf area index. The lines × seed rate interaction was not significant for all parameters except stem diameter at 60 days after sowing.
