Abstract: This study is a discussion and investigation of the status of women in the society and comparing it to the status of men and an attempt to see the size of differences between men and women in employment and education. In this respect we took into consideration the role played by women's education and their participation in the labour force. The importance of this study also stems from the principle of equality between the two sexes; which is one of the most important principles for the elimination of discrimination based on gender dimensions, and the problems that obstruct their development. The study has tackled the differences between male and female in employment and education. In the field of employment emphasis has been laid on some main Ministries namely, Ministry of Foreign affairs, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Justice, the Barliament and the Management bodies of the Universities. In the field of Education, emphasis has been laid on the basic Education and Higher Education. Statistical analysis has been done using some statistical tests, namely (`7;2) test and odds ratio test. The problems that hinder women from reaching higher leading ranks in the civil service have been classified. The Study has shown that there exist significant differences between males and females in the fields of employment and education. We can summarize the main findings as follows: There exist differences in the enrolment ratio in the basic education between male and female in all states of Sudan in such a way that enrolment ratio for male is higher than for female. The study also shows that there exist great differences between male and female in all the higher administration positions in the ministries and female are almost absent in the higher administrative positions of the Universities. The policy implications of the study argue that the Government must address the issue of eliminating, the differences in the enrolment ratios between the states and within the states of Sudan. Its also important to provide free Education in the basic Education stage and control school drop-out cases; besides giving due attention and care to women as being a key human resources in the society
