Abstract

The study aims to assess the impact of oil exports on the B of P and the change in its different items. The study is comparative and informative in nature as it compares the performance of the B of P before and after oil exports using secondary data and information collected from various government sources. The study is divided into five chapters, chapter one for the study contents and chapter two deals with oil discoveries ,chapter three for the performance of the B of P before oil exports and chapter four deals with the performance of B of P after oil exports .The study ends with chapter five which deals with the conclusion and recommendations. The study found that oil exports revenues led to the improvement of the trade balance which was reflected in surpluses in the B of P during some of the previous years due to capital accumulation resulting from investment in both the oil sector and other sectors such as the transport sector which has direct connection with oil transport (internal and external). The structure of exports are devided into an oil and non- oil exports structure .The nature of imports ,too, has changed emphasizing on capital imports serving developments and industry plus machinary and equipments and medical equipment due to foreign exchange surplus and stability of the exchange rate. A considerable increase has been noticed in exports revenues due to the introduction of oil exports taking grade one instead of cotton that become second.The study recommends the optimum utilization of oil proceeds for the benefits of the other sectors .It also recommends the development of non –oil exports and finds instruments that shall improve agricultural products and develop the industrial and services sectors .As well , it recommends strengthening research and training to cope with modern scientific and technological oil industry and other fields.
