Title: Efficacy of three products of oxyfluorfen Herbicide on Weed Control in Onion (Allium cepa L.)

Abstract: This study was conducted at the Department of Crop Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Khartoum, Shambat, Sudan, during the winter growing season 2008 – 2009 to test the efficacy of three products of oxyfluorfen (Harris24%EC, Oxyfen24%EC and Goal24%EC) and hand-weeding . Three concentrations 0.8, 0.6 (recommended dose) and 0.4 liter product/fedan were used for each product to study the efficacy of these products to control the weeds on transplanted onion (Allium cepa L.). Untreated pots were introduced as control. The study depended on the transplantation of onion seedlings after 45 day of sowing date in pots and the three products of oxyfluorfen with their concentrations mentioned above were applied. The results showed that the application of Harris 24%EC, Oxyfen 24%EC, Goal 24%EC reduced weeds population in onion crop to 98.5%, 94.6% and 91.4% respectively. When comparing the three products of oxyfuorfen with hand-weeding in controlling weeds and increasing the productivity found that there were no significant difference. The treatments of oxyfuorfen products and hand-weeding, significantly improved the bulb yield compared to the control. The study indicated that there were no differences among the three products of herbicides, but Harris was better, and no significant differences were recorded among the concentrations and the recommended dose was the better.
