Title: Assessment Of Electromagnetic Fields Emitted From High Voltage Power Lines 110 And 220 Kv In Khartoum State

Abstract: The objective of this research is to evaluate the electromagnetic fields (EMF) emitted from high-voltage power lines 110 and 220 kV in Khartoum state. The EMF was measured using SPECTRON NF 5020. Reading was immediately below the line (point 0.0m) and at every 10m away from the line up to 70m. The results showed that the EMF reading at point 0.0m was 178.7 V/m for 110 KV line and 326.1 V/m for 220 KV line. At 60m distance there reading 20.7 V/m for 110 KV and at 70 m it was 37.43 V/m for 220 KV line. Comparison of the present results with permissible values by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Showed that the electric field values were less than the WHO value 5 KV/m, regardless of the type of high voltage line. The values recorded in this study, represented 3.5% and 6.5% of the minimum allowable value. The results showed an inverse relationship between electromagnetic fields and the measurement point from of the high-voltage lines. The readings of the magnetic field at o.om 1.515 Micro Tesla and 0.2 Micro Tesla at 40 m distances. The safety range by the ICNIRP is 0.2 Micro Tesla. For the purpose of protection for the magnetic fields greater than 0.2 Micro Tesla the study recommended addressing the issue of building near and/or stabling high voltage lines in residential area.
