Title: Copper and Zink Levels in the Serum of Female Camels as affected by the Physiological States.

Abstract: This study was done in Butana area using animals of Rashaida camels breed. The aim of this study was to determine the interaction between the combination of age and physiological state and their effects on the levels of the micro minerals Cu and Zn in the serum of female camels. A total of 32 female camels were employed in a completely randomized block design. The animals were divided into three groups as follows: 1- Young female camels (4 animals). 2- Pregnant camels (16 animals) divided into 4 subgroups according to their calving stage: A. First calving (within the last two weeks of parturition). B. Second calving (late pregnancy within 3 months of parturition). C. Third calving (late pregnancy less than 3 months of parturition). D. Fourth calving (late pregnancy up to 3 months of parturition). 3- Lactating camels (12 animals divided into 3 subgroups according to their milk yield. A. High yielders B. Medium yielders C. Low yielders The data analysis revealed that serum Cu concentration increased with the increase in age. The serum Cu concentration oscillated within the normal values for animals at different physiological states. However, animals at their second calving exhibited values lower than normal. No significant differences could be detected between all the groups under study. The serum Zn concentration increased with increase in age. There was a continuous increase through the first and fourth calving. Zn level was significantly (P< 0.01) lower in the fourth calving compared to first, second and third calvings, as well as in young animals.
