dc.description.abstract Abstract The electron spin resonance spectrometer (ESR), available at the physics department in University of Khartoum, was used for carrying out this work. A glycollic acid HOCH2COOH single crystal was irradiated at room temperature by an X-ray beam. Two spectral lines were observed by the ESR system. A partially deuterated glycollic acid single crystal HOCH2COOD was also irradiated at room temperature by an X-ray beam and the same spectra were observed. The radicals observed in the protonated and the partially deuterated samples are assigned to the radical HOCHCOOH and HOCHCOOD, respectively. Computer analysis was carried out. The A-tensor and the g- value were found to be 20.7 Gauss and 1.9974, respectively. The molecular anion radical expected to be detected at 77K could not be observed. en_US
