dc.description.abstract In this study results of observations on a 13 k m microwave link operating at 7.5 GHZ in the region of Khartoum are revealed. The study investigates the .general propagation characteristics of microwave propagation in semi -desert region. Special attention is given to two main problems: 1) Multipath propagation and 2) Effect of dust storms on propagation. It is found that multipath propagation usually takes place in the afternoon and vanishes before sunrise. It is also found that evenings of hot day are more susceptible to surface dust formation and therefore multipath propagation. On the other hand the attenuation caused by dust storms was found to be negligible. In fact no measurable attenuation was observed. These results are in line with theoretical findings that have recently been published. The Thesis also covers brief1y the climate of the Sudan with special reference to the central region. Statistics of temperature and dust storms in Khartoum for the period 1981 to 1985 are also given. en_US
