Abstract: Six sweet potato genotypes were grown at the Faculty Agriculture at Shambat for the successive seasons 1995/1996 and 1996/97, respectively; namely TIB9 [62], TIS70683, 239-12C, TIS9232, DA2 and Jewel. All genotypes were grown at the recommended levels of fertilizer and other cultural practices. The vine growth rate, tubers yield and the nutritional value of the tuberous roots of the genotypes were evaluated for the two seasons. The results of this study showed that the genotypes, Jewel, TIB9 [62] and TIS70683 gave the highest growth rate of vines and higher yield of roots. The higher water content of tubers was observed in Jewel, DA2 and 239-12C. The genotypes TIS9232, 239-12C, Jewel and DA2 showed high protein content. Genotypes TIB9 [62] and TIS70683 were found to contain the highest starch content. Genotypes Jewel, DA2, TIS9232 and 239-12C possessed the highest total sugars content. The highest carotene content was found in jewel.
