Title: Life Table Data Analysis of Aphis Craccivora Koch (Aphidae: Homoptera) and Two of its Natural Enemies.
Author: Ali Mohamedein, Adam
Abstract: In Khartoum province the two major aphid pests damaging berseem (Medicago sativa) are Aphis craccivera Koch. and Therioaphis trifo1ii nacu1ata (Monell). Its incidence extends from the end of November to early May inflicting serious damage on crops especially during the cool season. The population growth of A. craccivera is checked, to a great extent, by the activities of a sequence of eight predators. Among these predators ,Coccinella undecimpun ctata L. and Adonia variegara (Goeze) are the most important although they are not specifically tied to this aphid. The hymenopterous parasite, Aphilimus sp .is the major controlling factor of the spotted alfalfa aphid. Aphids and their natural enemies were found to be drasticly affected by the use of pesticides. From the computed values of the intrinsic rate of natural increase and particulars of life tables data analysis, Medicago safiva was found to be a better host in maintaining A. craccivora than Dolichos. Among the two most important predators, Coccinel1a has a higher potential for increase than Adonia.
