Abstract: One of the various applications of the utilization of solar energy is solar water heating. This thesis provides information on the design, construction, testing and investigations for determination of the performance and efficiency of a medium temperature solar water heater (flat-plate collector), under Khartoum conditions. It discusses one of the renewable energy equipment, i.e a device that uses the sun to produce thermal energy. This device is used to provide thermal energy without optical concentration or pivoting to track the sun, with hourly measurements of solar radiation, ambient temperature and wind velocity. It can be extended to be used for refrigeration applications or similar solar thermal applications. The procedure Followed is:- 1- Design Design of the solar water heater collector (layout, dimensions, and selection of the suitable materials for design). 2- Construction Construction, assembly and installation of the collector. 3- Testing Tests and experiments of performance and efficiency of the collector were conducted. 4- Calculations Equations for the performance and efficiency were treated by a computer program. Experiments showed good agreement with the theory.
