Abstract: This study will deal with the evaluation of the policies for the treatment of informal housing in the developing countries – through indicators that will suit the conditions of cities in these countries, and on pre-applied methods that had been adopted by the advanced countries in evaluating the urban and regional projects that they implemented. This study will consider the official current policies which are adopted by the administration of Greater Khartoum, in the treatment of informal housing and the implemented treatments there-of form an axis for the evaluation process, which mainly will be based on the two methods of the replanning of such areas and the relocation of the squatters in absorption areas. The study has been concentrated on clearly demonstrating the role of the evaluation process at the phase that will follow the implementation of treatments for the informal housing in Khartoum (or Feed Back), which has remained a neglected topic in the policies of housing and urban planning, and also by comparing the implemented ones of such treatments to what had been planned for of projects, programs and housing levels. The study, as well as, attempts to demonstrate the great significance of applying the evaluation practice by the responsible authorities, on a continuous basis when implementing the treatment for informal housing. Also for presenting the importance of the results that were attained by the planners, decision – makers, and politicians, when planning for the sector of urban housing and physical development in the major cities of Sudan. What this study might reveal would lead us to derive conclusions and recommendations, which will insure the possibility of setting up scientific method or indicators for evaluating the implemented projects of urban housing, including the treatments for informal housing in Greater Khartoum. Also it will show the necessitity of the participation of the inhabitants of the areas under treatment in the evaluation process, and to guarantee their consent, and to urge them to participate more effectively in the development of their housing areas, and similarly to assure the importance of tressing on the qualitative aspects of such treatments which include provision of basic services, improvement of housing environment and availability of employment chances at the same level of importance that is given to the quantitative aspects of the treatments. The treatment according to the relocation of the squatters in absorption areas - especially the quantitative treatments – represented two – third of treatments that were employed in the informal areas within the Greater Khartoum.
