Title: Performance of Chisel Plow, Offset Disc Harrow and Wide Level Disc in Rainfed Gadarif Area - Sudan

Abstract: The study was conducted at the Demonstration Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Gadarif, during July 2010. The objective of the study was to evaluate the performance of the chisel plough, offset disc harrow and wide level disc and their effect on some physical soil properties (moisture content, bulk density and porosity).The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design. The wide level disc recorded the highest values of both field capacity and efficiency (2.8 ha/hr and 89%, respectively),while the chisel plough recorded the lowest values (1.41 ha/hr and 77.62%).The results also showed that wheel slippage affects tractor fuel consumption. The highest fuel consumption rate was recorded in the chisel plough treatment (9.85 l/hr) coupled with the highest slippage percentage(9.83%). The lowest fuel consumption rate was 7.80 l/hr recorded for wide level disc, while the offset disc harrow recorded lower slippage percentage (8% ). Differences in soil physical properties were not significant for three studied implements.
