Abstract: This study is cross sectional / community based. It was carried to study prevalence of tonsillitis among basic schools children during the period from (July – October 20008), in 400 child from selected schools in Khartoum north province (alzhraa / Khalid ibn elwaleed /Abu baker elsidieg /asmaa). This was done by clinical diagnosis and structural questionnaire design to cover all objectives. data were analyzed by Computer using spss programme vs 10 and statistical associations between variables using X2 TEST. The results of the study showed that (58.8%) of basic schoolchildren infected by tonsillitis with or without association of other diseases e.g. URTI in (17.0%), O.M in (2.1%) and Asthma in (9.8%). also, the study found many factors associated with tonsillitis considered to be as risk factors like un proper treatment, +ve family history and socio economic class. The study revealed that from 235 students infected with tonsillitis 74 under long-term penicillin treatment and 54 were treated by tonsillectomy. Complications found in more than half of infected children, permanent enlarged tonsils are most common one. The disease led to school absence in (88.9%) and affect school performance of (65.1%)
