Title: Evaluation of the Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT)

Abstract: Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Sudan. Symptomatic malaria accounts for 20–40% of outpatient clinic visits and approximately 30% of hospital admissions. The entire population of Sudan is at risk of malaria, although to different degrees. Objective: in some times the result of microscope is positive when diagnose malaria parasite in the lab while the rapid diagnostic test (RDT) are negative, so here we try to evaluate the rapid diagnostic test for Plasmodium falciparum kit produced by care start® company. Material and method: microscopy was the gold standard, RDT also used to screen the samples and PCR used to confirm the non- Plasmodium falciparum species Result: the sensitivity and specificity was low for Plasmodium falciparum kit produced by Care Start™Company.
