Title: Concomitant Tuberculosis And Hydatid Cyst In A Solitary Pulmonary Nodule Of Left Lower Lobe
Author: Elhassan, Nezar B; Elhassan, Ahmed M; M Saeed, Mossab Y
Abstract: We report a case of a 25-year-old woman who presented with recurrent attacks of haemoptysis over a 12 month period. Physical examination was normal. Chest x ray and computed tomography scan showed a 2.6×1.9 cm pulmonary nodule. Full blood count and biochemical profile were normal. Fibreoptic bronchoscopy was normal and bronchial aspirate was negative for Ziehl-Neelsen staining and malignant cells. The nodule was removed surgically because it was feared that it could be malignant. Histology showed concomitant hydatid disease and tuberculosis. This is a rare occurrence with only one similar case reported in the literature.
