Title: Knowledge and attitude of the community about child abuse in ALGEREF GARAB July-October-2008

Abstract: This study was conducted targeted parents at Algeref garab area in Khartoum state, it is observational descriptive cross sectional study using questionnaire, with sample size 117 selected randomly. It is aimed to assess the level of knowledge and awareness of parents about child abuse The results showed that 43% of the populations are in (30-45) years old most of them are female married and graduated 75% of them heard about child abuse from magazine and newspapers 59%of parents are not physically abusive 49% of them punishing their children by preventing TV watching. Non emotional parents abusive are 59.4% 40% of them know the effects of verbal abuse in their children 76.9% of know about child sexual abuse but 43% don’t know the symptom of it 40%of them prefer police calling 56.6% do not call the police for relative abuser and 53% of parents explained the sexual abuse to their children. The main recommendation is to increase the level of the awareness about all types of child abuse by TV, radio and internet programmers
