Title: Generator Ratings of Induction Machines

Abstract: Basically it is recognized that the performance limitation of a machine is determined by properties of the materials of which it is composed .A group of interrelated problems common to all machines is created by the losses in the machine and the need to dissipate heat. Rating of a machine is connected with its ability to operate at temperature compatible with reasonable life of the insulations of the of the machine as a whole. Therefore, matters of rating allowable temperature rise and the determination of the losses are matters of great importance in such a project involving machinery. The essential problem with the induction machines is the conversion of the electrical energy consumed in the circuit into mechanical energy obtained at the prime mover ( as a motor) , and the conversion of the mechanical energy obtained from the prime mover into electrical energy developed into the circuit (as a generator) . Induction Generators are well known for their rugged construction and tolerance of shaft speed variations , while operating at constant terminal frequency. This make them a good candidate for integration into variable –speed energy recovery systems based on wind turbines. The curious problem with this type of generator is that, it is really actually designed as an electric motor . A good mathematical model can help in studying the behavior of the induction generators ,and the factors for transition from motor to generator. In this project , , mathematical models derived for induction motor calculations are used for the induction generator calculation for negative slips
