Title: B-cell lymphoma complicating a case of primary sjogren's syndrome a lesson and a message
Author: Suliman, Ahmed M.; Sherif, A.; Shebaly, H.
Abstract: A 60-year old female presented to the hos-pital with bilateral submandibular salivary gland enlargement. General examination re-vealed xerostomia, cervical lymphadenopathy and hepatosplenomegaly. Histopathological examination of the surgically excised left sub-mandibular gland showed benign lymphoepi-thelial lesion. An adjacent left cervical lymph node showed reactive hyperplasia. The condi-tion was diagnosed as primary Sjogren's syn-drome( SS). A month later a palpable right ax-illary lymph node was excised and revealed the, development of a low-grAde B-cell lym¬phoma. The need for general and comprehen¬sive periodic examination of patients with pri¬mary SS is emphasized. The importance of open biopsy and fine needle aspiration cytolo¬gy for all questionable swellings in these pa¬tients is highlighted.
