Abstract: This study research and investigate some applications of the (EMTP) (Electro-Magnetic Transients Program),The description and analysis of the transients Phenomenon problems existing in the National Transmission Grid in Sudan, The study attempts to demonstrate the application of the EMTP to problem specific to the Sudanese National Grid: The finding and result of these studies are displayed and discussed, the conductor characteristics data for Khartoum North –Kuku line obtained using the EMTP program and compared against the data furnished by LAHMYER INTERNATIONAL CONSULTANT OFFICE (LI)shows some differences between the parameters; this is probably due to in accuracies in the earth resistivity data and the ground wire data . The Lightning analysis exercise attempted for the 220 kVtower in the vicinity of Garri Sub-Station shows the importance of grounding the towers to prevent a back flash. Grounding the tower effectively results in minimum disturbance to the system and directs the strike to the ground safely. The Cat Controller (Point-On-Wave) exercise on the 500 kV Marawi Sub-Station shows that switching individual phases at an angle 45 degree offers the minimum current surges. Thus it is seen that the EMTP is helpful in addressing transient problems that would otherwise be very difficult to analyse.
