Abstract: Background: Recently there is a growing interest in relating malocclusion to oral health-related qualities of life (OHRQoL), due to the fact that malocclusion not only cause functional limitation, but can play an important role in social acceptance and interactions. Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the orthodontic treatment need and oral health related quality of life among 13 to 17 year old Sudanese high school students in Khartoum area. Materials and Methods: A descriptive crosssectional school-based study. The sample comprised of 715 students, 400 (55.9%) males and 315 (44.1%) females. Each participant was assessed for orthodontic treatment need and oral health-related qualities of life (OHRQoL) by using the dental health component of orthodontic treatment need index and the oral health impact profile 14 questionnaire. Results: Students who had little or no, borderline, and definitive need for orthodontic treatment represented 71.7%, 20.4%,and 7.8% respectively and orthodontic treatment needs did not significantly affect the OHRQoL of the students. Conclusion: Malocclusion did not significantly affect OHRQoL in both male and female public secondary school students in Khartoum locality, however, feeling of tension and having a little bit of embarrassment, had significantly affected females of borderline orthodontic treatment needs. In addition, females of definitive need of treatment exhibited a significant influence on being self-conscious.
