Title: Recycling of Crop Residues for Sustainable Crop Production in a Maize – Groundnut Crop Rotation System
Author: Abdalla, Mubarak Abdelrahman
Abstract: Organic matter plays a key role in maintaining the fertility of acid soils since the clay mineral is mainly kaolinite as a result of intensive weathering under high precipitation . Until recent years, common agricultural practices in Malaysia have resulted in the depletion of inherent soil nutrients due to leaching and continuous removal by crops. Burning is a common practice in Malaysian farms, thought to be necessary to facilitate planting of crops and control of weeds and pests. This renders the C and N sequestered in the biomass to be lost, apart from air pollution hazards
