Title: Assessment of Channel Capacity for Cognitive Radio Networks

Abstract: The channel capacity in any communication system is a valuable performance metric. So the objectives of this study: was to analyze and model the Cognitive Radio Network (CRN) and determine parameters which control the capacity of the channel to choose their optimum values to achieve high productivity of the system defined in this thesis in terms of bits / second /hertz. To achieve these objectives a certain methodology had to be followed: The first step was to describe the system analytically, then to model the system mathematically to be implemented later. The (MATLAB & SIMULINK) programming language was used to model the system. For the cognitive radio network, a central access cognitive radio network model has been chosen for simplicity and the power control scheme chosen was Time Division Multiple Access scheme.The Results of this study were: The most effective parameter in the channel capacity of this system is number of primary users. Also the distance between the secondary user and the primary user has some effect on the channel capacity of the CR network. Therefore it can be said: the central access cognitive radio network model is more suitable for the less crowded environments.
