Abstract: The main objective of this research is to study the performance of Khartoum 110 kv ring network under conditions of load increase, transmission line tripping and generator shut down. Voltage stability of the system was studied under conditions of system load increase and N-1 contingency using MiPower software. The Simulation results indicate that load increase has huge impact on voltage stability because of progressive and uncontrollable drop in voltage which leads to voltage collapse. There was an indication that the power transfer in Khartoum 110 kv ring decreases due to increases in the total line losses in the network. On the other hand, the main factor causing instability was the inability of the power system to meet the demand for reactive power. So it is very important to limit the reactive power requirements in order to prevent voltage instability in the system.
