Abstract: Abnormal conditions in a power system generally lead to fall in system frequency; in this case underfrequency load shedding technique is used to restore the system to normal condition. This study is aimed at designing an underfrequency load shedding scheme to be applied in the Sudan National Power Grid. A five-stage scheme is proposed and implemented on Merwi bus, Merwi bus being the main power source. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme was investigated by simulating different abnormal conditions in the power system. These simulations were done by using ETAP program. The results of the simulations show that the proposed scheme is capable of efficiently recovering system frequency and preserving system stability following active power disturbances.
