Title: Performance Comparison between Direct Sequence Spread Spectrumand BPSK Systems Over a Jammed Channel

Abstract: This research has focused on DSSS-System because it has good features and is easy to implement. The main goal was to focus on a direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DSSS) system and compare it with a binary-phase shift-keying (BPSK) system. The comparison was done using MATLAB-Simulation tool to simulate bit error rate (BER) of a DSSS-System and a BPSK-System. MATLAB-Simulink tool was used to simulate DSSS-System with data rate equal to 100 kb/s and pseudo-noise (PN) code with code rate of 400 Mb/s, maximal length sequence of 127 bits to modulate a binary-phase shift-keying (BPSK) modulator. MATLAB-Simulation code tool was used to simulate BER for the BPSK-system. BER was used as criteria to evaluate the performance of both systems under AWGN-Channel and in an intentionally interfered environment. The results show that the DSSS system is more robust when encountered with intentional interference as compared to the conventional PBSK system. It is also found that at a bit error rate of about 0.01 the gain of the DSSS system is about 3dB over the conventional PBSK system when both are encountered by a sinusoidal jammer.
