Title: XRF Analysis of some Local Sudanese Fruits

Abstract: ABSTRACT Human health depends largely on the nutrients. Fruits of some plants are part of the human diet so they need to be analyzed to see their contents of the elements. The aim of this study was to determine the concentrations of elements in some local Sudanese fruits: Adnsonia digitata (تبلدي), Ziziphus spina-christi (ثمارالسدر) Hyphaene thebaica(الدوم) and Balanite aegyptiaca(لالوب). In this work the physical technique x-ray fluorescence (XRF) was used. The fruits were ground into a form of powder and the mass of each sample of about one gram was pressed into a pellet for analysis by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy system. International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA) software AXIL and a standard were used for the identification of the elements and determination of their concentrations. By analysis the following elements Fe, Ni, Cu, Pb, Rb, SR, Zr were found in the A. digitata fruit and the elements K, Ca, Fe, Cu, Zn, Pb, Rb, Br, Sr were found in the H. thebaica fruit and the elements K, Ca, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb, Rb, Br, Sr were found in the Z. spina christi fruit and the elements K, Ca, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb, Rb, Br, Sr were found in the B. aegyptiaca fruit. These elements were found in different concentrations. It was observed that a high Fe concentration was found in the A.digitata fruit while high K and Ca concentrations were found in the other fruits. A comparison was given between the results found in these Sudanese local fruits.
