Title: Comparative Study of Cost and Effect of Heavy Tractors Operation in Kenana
Author: Mohammed, Aliaa Mohammed Ahmed
Abstract: Different types of tractors vary in their cost and performance. These tractors also vary in the way that they impact the soil. The major effect of tractor on the soil is soil compaction which is one of the major problems facing modern agriculture. Soil compaction can restrict root growth and water infiltration, resulting in growth reduction. Beside soil compaction caused by tractor, the calculation of cost (ownership cost and operating cost) for each tractor will guide the farmers in the selection of tractor. in this research comparison, have been done between three type of tractor (different in weight and power) based on cost and the amount of soil compaction they produce when they operate on kenana sugar company field. The comparison between tractors based on soil compaction was made using hammer penetrometer and comparison based on cost was made by calculating per hectare cost of each tractor. Based on the results obtained, proper tractor between three tractors under comparison have been selected.
