Title: نقد شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية للمنطق الأرسطي وأثره على الفكر الإسلامي المعاصر
Author: القحطاني, فهد بن محمد بن عويضة
Abstract: The study is wholly concerned with all scientific efforts exerted by Sheikh Ibn Taymiyyah on the Aristotelian logic, which dominated the human thought in general and Islamic though in particular, especially that logic had been translated to the Arabic Language during the golden days of translation. The critique was laid in a form that reflected the deep understanding of Sheikh Ibn Taymiyyah of logic. Subsequently, that objective and scientific approach of criticism had the effect of influencing the International and Islamic though figures. The study aims at shedding more light and illumination on Ibn Taymiyyah’s methodology of the Aristotelian logic, and also to realize the extent to which it affects influence on the part of recent Islamic thinkers. It also aims at realizing the impact of Ibn Taymiyyah on contemporary Islamic thought. The historical method is used as well as the content analysis method. The study concluded with the following main results: The Aristotelian logic is a symbolic kind of logic that is not much concerned with the truth of premises, and therefore, Ibn Taymiyyah concluded that it was a kind of logic void of any additions or innovations as the results arrived at here offered nothing more than was included in the logical premises. According to Ibn Taymiyyah, such logic is sterile and of no value, and therefore, could not generate a cohesive pattern of thought. Ibn Taymiyyah also concluded that the four axioms on which the Aristotelian logic was based were inconstructive, incorrect, and false. Islamic thinkers have been highly influenced by Ibn Taymiyyah methodology in defending the Quranic teachings besides defending all Sunnis and the reconstruction of the comprehensive meaning of Islam, beside keenness on commitment to the first followers’ methodology and their call for Oneness of Allah. The contemporary Islamic thought has been greatly influenced by Ibn Taymiyyah’s doctrines that furnished a good base for Islamic methodology which is wholly based on Quran and Sunna, and Islamic thought reconstruction and worship of Allah. In view of the results being reached, it is recommended that more research is to be conducted by researchers on Ibn Taymiyyah’s influence on contemporary and modern Islamic thought, coupled with the necessity of carrying out more specialized and independent studies and research on the role of Ibn Taymiyyah in all Islamic classic and modern sciences.
