Title: Solar Panel Tracking System

Abstract: Solar energy is growing fast to take place as one of the most effective solution for energy problem around the world. Solar energy can be used as a direct thermal energy or it can be converted to electricity to be used in other application. The problem is we cannot collect the maximum solar energy if the solar panel is not facing the sun directly. A solar tracker is a device used to keep the photovoltaic or concentrating solar reflectors or lens perpendicular with the sun. The parabolic dish concentrator concentrates the sun thermal energy into a focal point if it was perpendicular to the sun, thus a solar tracking system was used to keep the parabolic dish aligned with the sun. A solar tracking system was designed and implemented for the parabolic dish using a microcontroller. The microcontroller moves the parabolic dish 5 degrees to the west every 20 minutes by controlling the motor through two pulleys connected to the parabolic dish with a shaft.
