Title: Design and Implementation of an Asset Management And Tracking System
Author: Alawad, Mustafa Abdelgader Ahmed
Abstract: Assets are considered a major and essential equipment for an organization to perform efficiently. Tracking those assets represents a real challenge for institutions. To track these assets, some organizations hire an employee whose job is to keep track of where an asset is located at any moment. This approach leads to an asset loss, misplace and probably asset theft which is considered a huge problem if the assets are expensive or hold valuable information. An Asset Tracking System is developed to keep track of the assets. The system focusses on how to locate an item in a closed tracking environment which represents the organization building or facility. To develop such a system with the minimum possible cost, IR technology was chosen to implement the system. The system consists of a tags and receivers. Tags are attached to the assets to be tracked, those tags periodically transmit a unique ID. These ID messages are then detected by a receiver and delivered to a central server to be displayed for the administrator in a software application.
