Title: Indoor Lighting with Solar Energy

Abstract: Off-grid photovoltaic (PV) systems are purely run from solar power and it‟s independent of the power grid. These systems require batteries to store excess electricity for further uses. An off-grid inverter charges the batteries and converts the direct current (DC) from the batteries to the alternating current (AC) that powers the load. The main objective is to design an off-grid PV system with batteries for EN22 class room, and the simulation of the system was done by ETAP program. In order to reduce the overall cost of the system another type of photovoltaic system, PV direct, was used by eliminating the high cost batteries. To ensure the proper operation of the system, its feasibility and due to the importance of the irradiation parameter in the system a study of, IV characteristic vs. irradiation and temperature was done. Also load flow and short circuit analysis for both AC and DC was done using ETAP software simulator.
