Title: Sudanese License Plate Recognition System
Author: Ali, Yasser Sadig Abdulgader
Abstract: Public car traffic management is becoming harder, as the number of the vehicles on Sudan roads is increasing. The traffic police face real problems dealing with the different kinds of traffic violation, which introduces the need for an automated way to help identifying and controlling these violations. The aim of the project is to develop a system capable of detection and recognition of the private Sudanese car license plates, in order to help reducing the traffic violations, and securing the streets. The project aims to develop the solution using current best image processing and machine learning technologies, in order to produce a fast, cost effective and highly accurate recognition system. The project is divided into three phases: plate detection phase which deals with the extraction of the plate from an image of the car, character segmentation phase which deals with separation and splitting of the characters of the license plate, and finally character recognition phase which deals with actual identification of the characters of the plate
