Abstract: The aim of this work is to study the efficacy of the insecticide Fipro (Fipronil) reduced agent and area treatments against desert locust gregarious hoppers, and compare them with the full cover treatment of the recommended dose of the insecticide. All experiments were carried out under field conditions. The insecticide was applied by motorized ULV rotary cage mist blower with direct spray on the nymphs. Fipro was tested at the recommended dose (0.5 L/ha) using full cover technique, and at half dose/area and one third dose/area mainly by leaving untreated swaths within the targeted area. Equivalent plots are left untreated as control. The full cover treatment at the recommended dose (0.5 L/ha) achieved high speed mortality particularly 24 hours after application compared with the other treatments. However, after 72 hours there were no significant differences among all treatments in the field. The tests proved that satisfied control results can be achieved when applying reduced agent and area treatments comparable to the traditional full cover treatments.
